North Carolina will promote Hubert Davis as head coach to replace Roy Williams.

Davis played for the Tar Heels and has been an assistant coach under Williams since 2012.

Davis also played in the NBA and worked in broadcasting. 

Roy Williams has announced he is retiring as head coach of North Carolina.

Williams has been head coach of North Carolina for the past 18 seasons, winning the national championship in 2005, 2009 and 2017. Williams previously coached Kansas for 15 seasons.

Williams ranks third all-time among Division I coaches with 903 wins, and he was inducted to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.
